DONEGAL North East TD Padraig Mac Lochlainn has vowed to raise Garda cutbacks in Donegal in the Dail after reports a burglary victim had to give a Garda a lift to her home because he had no patrol car.
“I am greatly alarmed at this latest development. This is the evidence yet again of the lack of resources available to the Gardaí,” Deputy Mac Lochlainn told donegaldaily.com last night.
“The reality is that despite assurances given to me by the Minister for Justice and senior Gardaí, the impact of Government cutbacks is having a real impact in Donegal.
“The last thing we need to do is encourage criminals with slow response times from the Gardaí to crimes in the county.”
The TD added: “I will be raising this latest incident and my growing concern with the Minister and the acting Garda Chief Supt, Jim Sheridan.”
The incident – in Manorcunningham – follows a crimewave in the area in recent weeks.
A blind man was battered and robbed in Newtown – and cars were stolen from Colm Dillon Cars.
