Path to the Final – Fanad Gaels

The Fanad outfit eased  their way into the round 1 group stage with a comfortable victory over an inexperienced Letterkenny Gaels side. They then pushed on with further wins over local rivals Milford and Termon. In the final game on the group stage the girls were very unlucky to finish second best to a strong St. Eunans side in what was a controversial affair in O’Donnell park. However, Fanad still progressed to the A section having been the best second placed team.
Fanad moved on to the round 2 group stage where they were heavily tested by three strong teams in the form of St. Eunans, Moville and Buncrana. The opening game was a replay of the earlier season meeting with St. Eunans. In a hard fought game in Portsalon the Fanad girls came out with the narrowest of victories beating the Letterkenny side by only the one point. The next game away to Buncrana was again a stern test with the Fanad girls digging deep in an impressive second half seeing them beating the Buncrana by two points. They finished of their second round group stage with an eight point home win over Moville, ensuring the top spot in the group and a place in the A Semi-Final.
The Semi-Final was an exciting end to end encounter played against a tough St. Nauls team. The game was in the balance throughout and could have gone either way until the last five minutes with Fanad finishing stronger and running away with a four point win.
