JOURNALIST Eugene Moloney was laid to rest this afternoon, buried alongside his mother in a graveyard in Co Donegal.

Members of Eugene’s family including brother Sean and sister Roisin were joined by  cousins from the extended Flanagan family at the graveside at St Mura’s Chapel in Fahan.

Girlfriend Chichi Tran wept as Eugene’s coffin was lowered into the grave.

Local businessman William McCarter was among the mourners.

Eugene was killed ten days ago after being attacked in Dublin city centre.

He was a former reporter with the Irish Independent and Irish News.

His funeral was held yesterday in Dublin where hundreds of mourners included dozens of journalists from throughout Ireland.

Today Fahan priest father Neil McGoldrick said prayers at the graveside as Eugene’s remains were lowered beside his mum Margaret ‘Peig’ Moloney (nee Flanagan). His trademark hat was buried with him.

A man has appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of the 55-year-old.

Our report from last night on yesterday’s funeral is here:
