DONEGAL’S Chloe Magee couldn’t have hit form at a better time – by making it through to the final of the presitigious Russia White Nights tournament in Gatchina.
The Raphoe woman, preparing to represent Ireland at the Olympics, pulled off quarter-final and semi-final victories on the same day.
She took on Monika Fasungova of Slovakia in the quarter-final, winning the first set.
Then she narrowly lost the second set – 22-20 – but she showed true grit to convincingly bounce back and win the third set 21-6.
Chloe had just a four hour break before tackling Russian Romina Gabdullina in front of a partisan crowd.
But the Donegal Olympian won the semi-final – again by two sets to one.
She now plays fourth seed Kamila Augustyn of Poland in Sunday’s final.
Chloe and her brother Sam Magee went out in the quarter-finals stages of the mixed doubles, losing to the Russian pairing of Andrej Ashmarin and Anastasia Panushkina.
