A leading Donegal businessman has said he fears he may have been the intended target of Tiger Kidnappers following an incident in Letterkenny last night.

Mairtin Kelly of Kelly’s Centra Mountain Top was speaking to DonegalDaily after an incident in which fuve men were detained for questioning by Gardai.

The men were quizzed after an alert member of the public noticed them at Mr Kelly’s garage around 12.30am.

Gardai later found the men in the Kilmacrennan area and discovered balaclavas in their two vehicles.

Mr Kelly said he could not say too much about the incident but feared the men were planning to target himself and his family.

“That is my fear and I think it is the fear of all the business community in the current climate.

“I have a very modern CCTV surveillance system in the garage forecourt and that is what tipped us off to this activity.

“I have also improved the security around my house recently and had CCTV installed as well as electronic gates. That is what it has come to,” he said.

Nobody was arrested as the men had not committed any offence.

The men were captured on CCTV wearing balaclavas at Mr Kelly’s garage.

However when confronted by Gardai the men claimed they were simply messing round.

One of the men even filmed Gardai on his mobile phone while they were being questioned.

Mr Kelly paid tribute to the responce time of the Gardai which he said was incredible.

“It only took a few minutes form when they got the call to when they were quizzing these guys. It was incredible.

“Gardai get a lot of stick but these guys were incredible last night and I would like to thank them,” he said.
