DONEGAL TRAVEL AGENTS STOPS OFFERING MAURITIUS AS DESTINATION

A travel agent has dropped Mauritius from its holiday destinations.

Liberty Travel in Letterkenny has decided to stop sending people to the sun-kissed Indian Ocean island.

The move follow follows the murder of Tyrone woman Michaela McAreavey.

Last week two hotel workers were cleared of murdering the newly married bride.

Liberty Travel owner Carolyn Davis, told the Shaun Doherty SHow in HIghland Radio that following a meeting with her staff, they had decided not to promote holidays to Mauritius.

“The honeymoon business is very important to us, and you need to have confidence in where you are sending people,” she explained.

She added “We had a meeting in the office and the girls agreed we would not have the stomach to sell it (Mauritius).
We just felt so sorry for Mickey Harte and his family.

“We have nothing against the people of Mauritius but we felt like this was the right thing to do in the circumstances,” she said.

The island has always been a popular destination for honeymooning couples.

People across Donegal have been outraged at the recent murder and trial outcome.

Michaela’s father Mickey is well-known throughout Donegal and often visits clubs and schools as part of a GAA figure.
