THERE were heartbreaking scenes in Moville on Saturday as much-loved local man Shane McMonagle was laid to rest after Requiem Mass.

A well-known DJ, Shane died on Thursday after a traffic accident just outside the town.

Hundreds of mourners attended the Mass at St Pius X chapel with burial afterwards at Ballybrack cemetery.

Fr Patrick McGoldrick said Moville had been left shocked by the tragedy.

“As you would expect in a small town like Moville, there is a great sense of sadness and shock at the death of someone so young,” he said.

“A lot of people are rallying around the family, including his friends, to provide support for them at this time.”

Shane performed under the name Ganix LaMacka and was well known for his own house music tunes.

Among the tributes on Facebook, one read: “God has a great new DJ in the sky tonight.”
