GOLF NEWS: ROSAPENNA CLUB NOTES

CAPTAINS DAY AT ROSAPENNA

On Saturday the 21st of July Mr Edward Mc Groddy hosted his 2012 Captains Day at Rosapenna.

The gents played the Old Tom Morris Links with over 100 players competing on the day.

The winner with 41 pts bot was Brendan McGee playing off 25. His investment in his new coach is beginning to pay of.

The runner up was Mark Lenny (12) with 41 pts. The gross winner was Frank Casey Jnr (4) who returned a level par 71 (36 gross pts). Third place was Michael Boyce 13 with 40 pts bot. Fourth place was Con Boyce (5) with 40 pts.

The front nine winner was Matthew Coyle (12) with 21 pts and the back nine winner was Michael Harkin (18) with 23 pts.

The committee prize was won by Charlie McBride (14) with 39 pts. The Past Captain prize was won by Marty Carlin (8) with 38 pts.

The Senior prizes was won by Columba Boyce (17) with 33 pts. The last four holes was won by Dermott Ward (12) with 11 pts bot. The Visiting Captain was won by Liam Breen and the visitor prize by Michael Bradley (6) with 37 pts.

The Junior Girls was won by Hannah O’Kane with Miobha McGinty as runner up. The Junior Boys was won by Padraig McGinty Jnr and the runner up was Ronan Gallagher.

The nine hole three club challenge which was held on the Friday night was won by Brian Kelly with 33 nett.

The Gents Captains Prize to the Ladies was held over the Sandy Hills Links last Saturday. The winner was Suzanne Gallagher 27 with 44 pts. Runner up was Kit Boyce 27 with 37 pts bot. The gross winner was Vivian Houston 7 with 25 gross pts. Third place was Eileen Magill 14 with 37 pts bot.

Well done to the Rosapenna Senior Scratch Matchplay team who travelled to the Glashedy Links at Ballyliffin Golf Club last Sunday and won 3 matches from 7 to win the overall tie 8-6 to advance to the county semi final where we will face Portsalon Golf Club. The home leg of the semi final is due to be played on Friday the 3rd of August at 4.00pm. Home support is welcome.

Good luck to the Rosapenna Jimmy Bruen team who will take on Killymoon Golf Club at Strabane G.C in the Ulster Semi Final this Friday the 27th of July at 4.30pm. Travelling support on the night is welcome.

Good luck to our Junior Scratch Matchplay team who play Buncrana G.C at home this Wednesday the 25th at 4.00pm sharp.

Rosapenna won 3 from 7 matches in the away leg of this years county semi final.

The Donegal League team will play Falcarragh G.C in the county semi final next week with the away leg taking place first. Support is welcome. Good luck to all players.

Rosapenna are in the Ulster quarter final of the Irish Mixed Foursomes where we will face Carrickfergus G.C at the Roe Park Resort next Monday the 30th of July at 5.00pm. Good luck to all involved.

 

 

 

Good luck to our Donegal Over 50’s team who take on

 

Ballybofey/S this Thursday night (26th July) in Ballybofey.

 

Rosapenna lead the tie 4-1 and 13 holes up.

 

 

 

The Catherwood Trophy (Open Mixed Foursomes) has been

 

postponed until Saturday the 25th of August

 

as there has been a clash of events of late.

 

 

 

There will be a club competition this Sunday the

 

the 29th of July over the Old Tom Morris Links.

 

All Sunday club competitions are now 6e entry per player.

 

 

 

The 2012 Leitrim Cup sponsored by the Pavilion Golf Shop will

 

be played over the Sandy Hills Links on Sat 4th, Sun 5th &

 

Monday the 6th of August. There will be 18 hole singles

 

stableford qualifying on Sat & Sun with 1st, 2nd, Gross and 3rd

 

from each day going through to the matchplay stages on

 

Monday morning.

 

The quarter finals will be played over the front nine of Sandy Hills

 

Links starting at 8.30am followed by the semi finals over the

 

back nine of the Sandy Hills Links.

 

The 18 hole final will take place over the Sandy Hills Links at 3.00pm sharp.

 

All entries will be taken in the Pavilion Golf Shop with a time-sheet in operation.

 

 

 

The Rosapenna Open Week begins on Friday the

 

10th of August with competitions for Ladies & Gents

 

running until Sunday the 19th of August.

 

The entry fee is 10e R/P Member, 20e D/L club member

 

and 30e for Visitors. GUI cards required. No max h’cap.

 

Booking is available from August 1st on 074-915-5000.

 

 

 

The fourth round of the club doubles matchplay

 

must be played by Monday the 13th of August.

 

All second round matches must be completed by

 

Monday the 13th of August.

 

 

 

The draw for the 2012 Ulster Senior Cup Semi Final has been made with

 

Rosapenna facing Warrenpoint (8.35am) and Dunmurry playing Moyola Park (7.45am).

 

The semi final (am) and final (pm) will both take place at Portstewart Golf Club

 

on Sunday the 19th of August.

 

 

 

The Pavilion Restaurant is open from Thursday – Sunday

 

throughout July with our new menu served from 5.00-8.00pm.

PGA Professional Noel Callan is available for lessons at the Rosapenna Practice Ground

 

by appointment, all enquires can be made by contacting Noel directly on 0044-7789-157654.

 

The Practice Ground is open seven days with the ball dispenser in operation and new super range golf balls in use.
