Classic at Portsalon Golf Club.

 

Sean Mc Gettigan Club Classic.

It’s here on Saturday 28TH July, one of the most talked about and eagerly awaited golfing classics of the year takes place as Portsalon Golf Club stages the Sean Mc Gettigan Open Golf Club Classic. Apart from playing on the golden ‘’Banks’’ course, entry into this competition includes one of the finest meals one could ever imagine with a wide variety to satisfy the taste of all who participate. Sean has gone to the extreme to ensure that everyone’s taste will be satisfied on the day. The event is a team of four any combination and tee times are available so make sure that you are included in this magnificent event both golfing and feasting contact 074 9159459 or go online to portsalongolfclub.com to ensure your place in this magnificent event. Entry fee which includes your meal is €120 per team

 

Barton Cup

One of the oldest golfing events in the history of Portsalon Golf Club will be held on Monday 6th August. The event is the Barton Cup which was first staged in 1899. This is an open match play event played over nine holes with the semi finals and final played over 18 holes. All who are going to participate must have their names entered by Saturday 4 th August and the draw will take place at 6 p. m.. The first tee is reserved for this prestigious event and the competition gets underway at 7.30 a.m. In order to have the matches played all players are asked to be on time. For those defeated in first round of the Barton Cup they will be entered into the Mc Menamin Plate.

 

Captains Day

Preparations are well underway at Portsalon Golf Club for D P Logue’s Captains Day which will be played on Saturday 18th August . A time sheet is in operation for this major golfing event. Contact 0749159459 or go online to portsalongolfclub.com for your tee time.

 

Lady Captain’s Day

There was a large turnout on Saturday last for Noreen Mc Conigley’s Lady Captains Day. The Lady Captain had a special section for the gents and playing in ideal weather conditions Rathmullen’s John Birney blazed his way around the course and recorded a magnificent 43 points to win on the break of tie. Runner up was Ronan Mc Clafferty with 43 points, Gross Eamon Mc Dermott 32 points, third Michael Shields 42 points. Best nines went to Tony Kingston and Sean Gibson. The CSS was 37 points.On behalf of the gents members we wish to thank the Lady Captain for the magnificent prizes on offer on the day

 

Results.

The winner of the open competition sponsored by Finn Valley Pheasantries. was John Doherty (10) 41 points, runner up Connor Mc Fadden (12) 39 points, Gross Pascal Cullen (6) 31 points, third Danny Kerr (18) 37 points. The CSS was 36 points.

The Captain D P Logue and members of Portsalon golf club would like to wish Geraldine Wall a speedy recovery and a return to the Poartsalon ‘’Banks’’.

The following is just some of the events which will be staged at Portsalon Golf Club over the next few weeks. On Saturday 4th August Ladies and Gents open competition, Monday 6th August the Barton Cup, Wednesday 8th a gents open competition, Saturday 11th a ladies and gents open competition, Wednesday 15th gents open competition, Saturday 14th August D P Logue’s Captains Day . Saturday 25th August Gents Open (sponsored by Diarmuid Coll ) Saturday 1st September Wm Mc Cleary’s Presidents Day.

 

Members Note

Members should note that all away scores should be recorded in the away scores book in the clubhouse

Match Play

This season’s match play competition at Portsalon has reached the quarterfinal stage and the players are reminded that all matches must be played by 31st July.

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
