GAA NEWS: NAOMH COLUMBA CLUB NOTES

Naomh Columba 30/07/2012

Our men had a mixed bag on Saturday evening last, with the reserves overcoming Burt by a single point, while the seniors were unfortunate to lose out on the same margin. Our third team lost out to Mc Cumhaills in Páirc na nGael. The teams are not in action this weekend. Our under 21 lads enjoyed a good victory over Downings in their championship opener on Monday evening. The club host a Charity Football Match in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital on Sunday. Please note that the time of this event has been changed to 1.30pm, on account of Donegal’s quarter final fixture. Our under 16 county champions of 1992 take on a Glen/Ardara select panel, in what promises to be a thoroughly entertaining affair. We would encourage everyone not travelling to Croke Park to come along and support this worthy cause.

In underage news, well done to our under 10s on winning both the A and B categories in last Saturday’s blitz in Killybegs. Thank you to the host club for their accommodation on the day, and fair play to all! Hard luck to our minors, who suffered defeat at the hands of Red Hughs in last Thursday’s county semi-final. The sides were tied at 1.10 a piece at full time, however Red Hughs ran out 5 point winners after twenty minutes of extra time, and a gutsy performance from our lads. We wish Jim and the county team the very best of luck in Sunday’s mouthwatering quarter final tie with Kerry. Safe journey to everyone making the trip to Croker, and don’t forget our post match celebrations, with Castlederg’s finest, The Logues, live in the marquee from 10pm Sunday. Sponsorship cards are now available for our charity cycle in aid of Temple Street, which takes place on Sunday, September 9th. Donegal Town cyclists can contact Owen Doherty 086 084 7967, while cyclists from the Glen area can contact Brendan Doherty on 087 700 8286, or message us on facebook. There is great interest so far, and it’s shaping up to be a fun day out! The cycle will be followed by a BBQ and fundraising table quiz in The Glen Head Tavern, kicking off at 7pm.
