The Letterkenny Reunion opens on Sunday next with the traditional Mass in St. Eunan’s Cathedral.

Marking its 21st anniversary – the Reunion came into being back in 1991 – the organisers have drawn up a comprehensive line-up of events to follow the official opening.

On Sunday night, popular folk group, The Pattersons, who won their way to international fame on classic B.B.C. television programmes such as the Val Doonican show and Morcambe & Wise, have reunited for a special guest appearance in the Mount Errigal Hotel. Also performing on the first night will be Evelyn O’Donnell, American Pie and Gareth Kirwan. World acclaimed Irish dancer, John Friel will also be stepping it out.

On Monday 6th, the committee has organised a re-enactment of the old Fair Day (1 p.m. to 6 p.m.) at Lower Main Street, featuring arts and crafts stalls, a country market and an exhibition of horse shoeing. Music, song and dance will also form part of the afternoon programme. Later on Monday evening, a quiz night will be staged from 8.30 p.m. in the Station House Hotel.

Another popular tradition of the Reunion over the years is the Mystery Bus Tour and a queue of coaches will set out on Tuesday morning at around 11.30 a.m. from Scoil Colmcille for a trip to the mystery destination. Musicians will be on all the buses to keep the entertainment flowing and there’ll be comedy by the one and only Conal Gallen. There will also be music in the Orchard by The Mindbenders when the bus returns.

A cultural afternoon has been organised for Wednesday in the Regional Cultural Centre with displays by local artists, sculptors, musicians, poets and dancers. There’ll also be an Echoes of Time segment while well known personalities such as Little John Nee and Dessie Gallagher will be adding to the entertainment.

A celebrity Gaelic football match follows at O’Donnell Park at 6 p.m. with a traditional session in the Tir na nOg Bar with music by The Duddys. The Cavern Bar will host a late night barbecue on the Wednesday night.

Long standing local group, RAW, will take to the stage in Bar Rouge at The Grill from 11 p.m. to 1.a.m. on the Thursday night while a traditional evening has been organised for the Mount Errigal Hotel from 8 p.m. Earlier, Leckview Park will host the soccer final at 6.30 p.m.

Friday is the closing day of the Reunion with a number of events lined up including a music session featuring Ted and Tanya in McGinley’s Bar (4 p.m. to 6 p.m.), a skittle competition at Lower Main Street (6.30 p.m.), and a Step Back in Time photo competition and exhibition at the Picturehouse. There’ll also be a special coffee evening at the studio with proceeds going to the Reunion.

Closing dance

The closing presentation dance will take place in the Clanree Hotel with music by PK from 10.30 p.m. to 12 o’clock and the Andrew Monk band performing from midnight through to 2 a.m.

Free shuttle buses will depart from the Market Square from 9.30 p.m. on the night to travel to the venue.
