DONEGAL BUSINESSMAN HOPING TO ‘TAKE-AWAY’ A PACKET ON RTE’S BIG MONEY GAME

A Donegal businessman whose chip shop was robbed just hours before his ticket was picked for RTE’s The Big Money Game is hoping to ‘take-away’ a fortune when he appears on the show tonight.

Daniel Rogers was left fuming when vandals broke into his CKC Takeaway in Newtowncunningham last week.

The gang wrecked his shop causing almost €1,500 worth of damage.

The father-of-three was furious and wondering where exactly he was going to get the money from to pay for the repairs.

But his worries disappeared just a day later when his scratch card was picked for him to appear on tonight’s show with host Brian Ormond.

Daniel, 56, said he always watches the show but was watching the Olympic Games that night instead.

“I usually always watch it but I was watching the Olympics that night.

“A couple of minutes later however I got a phonecall and I knew it was me. I was delighted. I wasn’t surprised because I knew I had sent in the scratch card,” he said.

Daniel said being picked to go on the show has more than made up for the break-in to his chip shop.

“The way things are these days I simply didn’t need another bill for a broken window and all the damage to the shop.

“But things happen in mysterious ways and I’m delighted I will be able to have the chance to win a few pound.

“Like everyone else I will be paying off all my bills first and then I’ll think about what I could spend any more left over,” he said.

Daniel said he’ll be bring 21 family and friends with him to Dublin for the show.

But he ruled out he’ll be celebrating with the rest of the people of Donegal when they ravel to Croke Park for their All Ireland encounter with Kerry today (SUN).

“I hate football. I have no interest in it but I hope they do very well.

“Hopefully I can take home plenty of money and Donegal can take Kerry at Croke Park. That would be some weekend,” he said.
