JIM McGuinness was clearly delighted after Donegal overcame Kerry today – but was keeping his feet on the ground as favourites Cork lie ahead in the semi-final on August 26.
And the Donegal manager admitted that his side nearly lost it against the Kingdom towards the end.
“We nearly threw it away,” said Jim.
“We had a six point lead and we we were in control – and then a goal goes in and we nearly paid the price,” he said, “Kerry really came back at us.”
But he winning the ball in midfield at the end to allow Karl Lacey to point again “really mattered.”
Said McGuinness: “From our own point of view we are just happy to get over the line. Great scenes for the supporters out there today and to play Kerry for the first time in the championship and get a victory is fantastic.
“We are now in the semi-fnal and not getting too carried away. Hopefully we can bring the thing forward im the coming weeks.”
