DONEGAL South West TD Thomas Pringle has described thieves behind the robbery of a camper van earlier this week as ‘mean’ after it emerged the victims lost a substantial amount of jewellery and a large sum of cash.
Deputy Pringle said he understood the couple were from Co Clare and had stopped off for a couple of hours in Bundoran when the robbery happened.
He said: “This theft was particularly mean. It shows that some people will stoop very low when they are prepared to rob people in a camper van in broad daylight.
“They have done this knowing that the victims of their crime are on their holidays and enjoying themselves.
“I hope anyone who knows anything about this to contact Gardai.”
Gardai say the theft took place at Atlantic Way which was packed with holidaymakers on Monday when the incident took place – sometime between 2.15pm and 4.30pm.
A spokesman said: “Anyone with information should call Ballyshannon Garda station on 071 98 51102.”
It’s understood the victims are continuing their holiday in north Donegal.
