Buncrana GAA Notes For Week Ending Sunday 12th August

Congratulations: The Opel GAA All Stars announced last week that Ryan Bradley has been selected as the GAA Football Player of the Month for July. The Buncrana player has been awarded by his fellow-county players for the outstanding individual contribution he has made in Donegal’s championship encounters throughout the past month. Not only did Bradley help Donegal secure a place in the All-Ireland semi-final, he also contributed to Donegal’s Ulster Championship victory against Down. Ryan returned to club training on Tuesday night following the Kerry game and put in another excellent performance on Saturday past in the league. Congratulations Ryan and best of luck in the upcoming Semi-Final against Cork.

All-Ireland Football Semi-Final: There is a real buzz around the county about the upcoming All-Ireland Semi-Final, when Donegal will attempt to go one step further than last year’s campaign by defeating 2010 All-Ireland Champions Cork. Many Buncrana Gaels will no doubt make the pilgrimage south to GAA Headquarters again to support Ryan and the rest of the lads. Please note that ticket orders will be taken on Tuesday 14th between 6.00pm and 8.30pm at the Scarvey.

Senior Football: The Senior footballers resumed league action on Saturday evening when they faced Burt at the Scarvey. The first half was a close affair with neither side managing to dominate possession. Buncrana went in at half-time with a one point lead, thanks in part to scores from Ryan Bradley, Kevin Treacy and Adrian Doherty. In the second half Buncrana began to dominate in Midfield and attack in numbers, with Calvin Jones particularly impressive. Further scores were added by Adrian Doherty, Ryan Bradley, Oisin Doherty, Peter McLaughlin, Christopher McDermott and a goal from full forward Kevin Treacy. Buncrana will be satisfied with the overall performance but will be aware that there is further room for improvement over the coming weeks leading into the Intermediate Championship. Final Score: Buncrana 1-17 Burt 0-11.
