DONEGAL All-Star Karl Lacey says the county’s 14-point defeat to Cork in the 2009 All-Ireland football quarter-final will drive the county on when they meet on Sunday week at Croke Park.
“That was just a horrible day,” said Karl who played that day.
“We are miles ahead of what we were then – at least I hope we are. But Cork have improved since then as well.
“That’s a game, a day, that’s to forget playing for Donegal. Leaving Croke Park that day was tough to take. We have the chance to put things right.”
Lacey, who will make his 100th appearance for the Tir Chonaill men against the Rebels, added: “Now we’re going up with the belief that if we do stick the game plan that Jim (McGuinness) gives us and if you give it your all that you won’t be too far away. That’s a big difference.”
