LEAVING Cert students celebrating results should do it with care, a county councillor said today.
Speaking as thousands of Leaving Cert students receive their results today, Sinn Féin Cllr Cora Harvey has urged also those who are disappointed with their results to consider their options. Cllr Harvey said:
“Firstly I wish to commend all of the students who collect their Leaving Cert
results today. It is the culmination of all of the hard work and effort put in over the last two years and I extend my congratulations to all who have achieved the points required to pursue their chosen courses and careers.
“Unfortunately, every year there are some students who are disappointed with the results they have achieved. I would urge those students not to panic and to consider fully all the options available to them.
“I would recommend that students who are disappointed with their results to talk to their parents, to their career guidance counsellors, to their teachers and to admissions officers. There is help and guidance available and you can succeed in your chosen career path.”
On celebrations, Cllr Harvey said: “I would also urge students to be responsible in socialising over the next few days. Of course, this is a time to enjoy spending time with friends before college starts and students set off on their different
paths but as young adults, leaving their school days behind, responsible decisions should be made.
“Students should take extra care to look after themselves and their
friends. This can be an emotional time for many young people and
excess alcohol is not the answer.”
