Matthew Curran from Swilly Seals ASC in Letterkenny struck Gold in All Ireland Community Games national finals in Athlone today.

He won the gold medal in the blue ribbon 50Meter freestyle event representing his county, Donegal.

Matthew is a really fast improving swimmer and trains 5 – 6 time per week.

He would often swim 25/30km per week during his training regime. His time of 26.60 was fast and he joins a very select group from Swilly Seals won have won Gold on behalf of Donegal at national Finals.  On Saturday, the Donegal girls brought home 3 golds (Freestyle U8, Freestyle U12, and the 4x25m relay), one bronze (Breaststroke U14), two fourth place medals (Backstroke U14 and Backstroke U16). This was 10% of the total medals on offer that day. Also, a couple of other swimmers reached the semi-finals in their events. This is a huge achievement for girls’ swimming in Donegal. These girls come from the Marlins club (Ballyshannon), Swilly Seals (Letterkenny) and IASC (Buncrana).
