NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE – HOSPITAL MAY HAVE FIGHT ON ITS HANDS TO BAN SMOKERS

Letterkenny General Hospital may have a fight on its hands to introduce its smoking-free status.

As of next month the hospital will ban ALL smoking in the grounds of the medical facility.

At present there are two smoking areas at the hospital – at the front entrance of the hospital and another beside the Accident and Emergency.

Smokers can by law use these areas to enjoy a cigarette.

However that will stop in the coming weeks when both of these facilities are removed.

Smokers, including patients, who wish to have a cigarette, will then have to go outside the hospital grounds.

However some users of electronic cigarettes are up in arms at the move.

One patient, who spends long periods of time at the hospital, said he had ben prescribed the electronic cigarettes by the hospital’s smoking cessation officer!

“It’s just madness. This is really going too far. I have been told that I cannot even smoke an electronic cigarette.

“I know they are trying to push the idea of a non-smoking hospital but I’m hardly doing anybody any harm using an electronic cigarette,” he said
