FROM NEIL DOHERTY IN INVERNESS: THEY may have conceded two goals in the last ten minutes but Celtic’s 4-2 win here over Inverness Caley Thistle was a great work-out for the Hoops ahead of Wednesday’s second leg Champions League qualifier against Helsingborgs.
Neil Lennon made six changes for today’s lunchtime clash and surely it was the introduction of Man of the Match Tony Watt which was the most influential as the striker bagged two goals on his full competitive debut.
Celtic were in front in the 4th minutes as Victor Wanyama headed in from Adam Matthews’ corner.
Tony Watt curled in the second in the 24th minute and battered in the fourth in the 63rd, with a well-worked move allowing Charlie Mulgrew to slot past Ryan Esson in between in the 47th minute.
Ross Draper fired in two late goals to take some of the gloss on a well-worked Celtic win.
If Neil Lennon was annoyed about throwing away two goals at the end at a ground where Celtic have regularly dropped points over the years, he didn’t show it.
“That was as good as we have played here in a long time,” said the Co Armagh man afterwards.
“It was a brilliant performance and I have to be pleased with that.”
He also had a special mention for Watt who showed some superb touches for the Hoops.
“Tony was superb, he has great assets and I think we have a great player on our hands,” said Neil.
He agreed he had one eye on next Wednesday.
“It is a balancing act between the games and we coped quite well. We look ok now for Wednesday. It was a great 90 minutes for us today and that will do us no harm at all,” he added.
