Presidents Day at Portsalon Golf Club

 

Presidents Day

The second major golfing event on the Portsalon golfing fixture list tees off on Saturday 1st September as the members will contest for Wm Mc Cleary’s Presidents Prize. Over Willie’s golfing career at Portsalon he served for a number of years as a council member of the golf club. He played a major part with the initial purchase of the club and with the redevelopment of the course which has seen the club reach new heights in the golfing world. Throughout his golfing years Willie has captained and represented Portsalon golf club at all levels. Willie was bestowed with the coveted title of club captain in 2002 and club president in 2010. This now Willie’s second year of his tenure as President of Portsalon Golf Club. The Captain D P Logue and the members of Portsalon golf club wish club president Willie Mc Cleary every success on this his special day at Portslaon golf club.

 

The Lady members and junior members with club handicaps will contest for the Wm Mc Cleary’s Presidents prize on Thursday 30th Aug. prize giving will take place in the clubhouse on Saturday night at 9.30 p. m and all members are welcome to attend. Results

There was a large turnout for the Diarmuid Coll sponsored gents open which was staged on Saturday last at Portsalon golf club. Playing in blustery weather conditions the winner was 16 handicapper Brian Boyle with 42 points, runner up Ciaran Mc Fadden (9) 39 points, Gross Eamon Mc Dermott (3) 29 points, 3rd R Wilson (16) Rockmount 38 points, 4th Tony Kingston (14) 36 points. Visitor D Mc Gill Rosapenna and best nines went to Dermot Boyce and Davey Hughes. The CSS for home players was 35 points and away players 34 points. On Sunday the winner of the members stroke competition was Adrian Mc Alary (16) 66 nett, 2nd D P Logue (6) 67, gross Pat Greene (11) 84, 3RD Kevin Mc Fadden (20) 69 nett. The CSS was 72. The winner of the Wednesday open was Joe Logan (16) 39 points runner up John Sandilands (20) 36 points, gross Eamon Mc Dermott (3) 31 points 3rd Michael Shields (16) 35 Points. The CSS was 35 points.

 

Past Captains

The coveted Past Captains cup will be staged at Portsalon golf course on Saturday 8th September. The first tee is reserved from 12.40 to 1. 40.

 

 

Members Note

Members should note that all away scores should be recorded in the away scores book in the clubhouse

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
