Mevagh Ramblers walking club in conjunction with BRENDAN BOYCE, Irish Olympian 50K walker, have a 5K and 10K walk organized for Saturday, September 8th.
It is a looped walk beginning and ending at Mevagh Family Resource Centre, Downings. The walk will be led by Maura and begins at 10am.
Brendan will give a mini clinic on the technique of race walking. This is an opportunity for athletes to pick up valuable tips from an expert or indeed get a taste of the sport if not already involved. All welcome.
Brendan will walk 500 meters through Downings under race conditions. The walk will be timed and will set a standard for others to aspire to and can be used to give an idea of the pace Brendan travels at on his 50K (32 mile) walk.
This is a fund raising walk with proceeds going to the Brendan Boyce Training Fund as he prepares for the European and World Championships, culminating in the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
Entry fee is €10 for adults, which includes a cuppa afterwards in the Mevagh Family Resource Centre where Brendan will sign autographs. All Welcome.
