MAYO BOSS WILL HAVE FIRST-HAND KNOWLEDGE OF DONEGAL – IF THEY REACH FINAL!

Mayo GAA manager James Horan may have some secret information on All-Ireland finalists Donegal if his team beat Dublin on Sunday.

The Ballintubber man lived here for a number of years where he worked at Letterkenny Institute of Technology.

But even more surprising is the fact that James led a secret sporting career – as a rugby star.

The Mayo boss lined out for Letterkenny Rugby Club and became its top point-scorer for two seasons.

Horan would play rugby on Saturday and then travel home on Sunday to play gaelic.

Former President of Letterkenny RFC, Jim Moore, says James could have played rugby at the highest level.

“He is such a nice fella and he was a natural sportsman.

“He played full-back for us and he was our top points scorer. He could have played at the highest level.

“He was very popular and I’m sure there will be plenty of Donegal people rooting for him on Sunday.

“However, I’m not so sure they will be speaking to him if they beat Dublin and go on to the final,” laughed Mr Moore.
