Three Glenties brothers have helped their team pull their way to success at the World outdoor Tug of War championships in Appenzell, Switzerland.

The championships are running from the 6th – 9the Sept in the picturesque Swiss village. Yesterday Glen of Glenties brothers Connell & Jimmy Ward were pulling with their club (Lakehill who are based in Knockmore, Co. Mayo) in the open club 700kg competition.

There were 36 teams in the competition as Lakehill progressed to the final without losing an inch of rope.

In the final they faced Heure from the Netherlands who are the defending champions.

Lakehill produced another powerful display to win the gold medal and the world title, their first ever world title.

Today Friday Lakehill are pulling in the 640kg competition.

Tomorrow Saturday the winning Lakehill team will represent Ireland at 700kg in the closed championships where a top 6 finish is needed to secure qualification for the World Games in Cali, Colomia in July 2013.
