A Letterkenny man has vowed to get off a remote oil rig off the coast of Scotland in time to make it for the All-Ireland Final.

Frankie Veldman works more than 180 miles north-east of Aberdeen in the North Sea.

Frankie has been at every Donegal game this year bar one when he could not make due to offshore work commitments.

But the Ard O’Donnell man says he will get to Croke Park on September 23rd – even if he has to swim!

“I’m due to get off the day before and I’m hoping I can get a ticket and get to the match.

“Hopefully the weather conditions will be okay and the work schedules and I can get of off in time.

“The craic has been good here for the past couple of weeks and I have the flag flying in the rig here.

“Hopefully it will still be flying when I get back to the rig and we’re All Ireland champions,” he said.

Frankie works with another 120 workers on the Balmoral Oil Rig.

The Letterkenny man is planning to make the trip to Dublin with his close friend Petie McGee from Meenmore in Dungloe and Petie’s daughter Noreen who is Frankie’s girlfriend.
