LETTERKENNY TOURISM BODY DELIGHTED WITH ITS FIRST YEAR IN OPERATION

Letterkenny Tourism committee has just experienced their first summer promoting the town as a leading tourism destination.

Although still in its infancy the core committee is delighted with the achievements and results to date and is only as good as those that support it.

The ground work in the early part of the year set the ball rolling to ensure that Letterkenny had a busy and fruitful tourism season for all.

The town hosted many festivals and events during the summer months which were promoted in all marketing campaigns with a positive and consistent message increasing the number of tourists who in previous years may have just used Letterkenny as a stop off.

The newly formed group which are only working together since February of this year have used their resources and funding from members to ensure a wise spend across many marketing channels including a successful UTV campaign which boosted the profile of the town significantly, a website which is well established with traffic increasing daily, a print and radio campaign in Northern Ireland as well as connecting with a host of people through face book and social networking mediums.

As the summer season winds down the months ahead look promising with the recent announcement that Letterkenny Town has been shortlisted for the inaugural Tourism Town Award.

The town was entered in the competition by Letterkenny Tidy Towns committee and was driven by Tidy Towns Chairperson Ann McGovern and supported by Letterkenny Tourism.

The town is among one of only ten towns in Ireland shortlisted for the prestigious Tourism Award. The surprise announcement came at the Tidy Towns award in Dublin this week and is a welcome boost for a town that was previously only associated as an industrial town.

The key focuses for this award will look at what distinguishes Letterkenny from other towns and what the town has to offer any potential visitors. This ties in with Letterkenny Tourism core values in promoting the town and showcasing all that is indeed unique about Letterkenny and it many offerings to the tourism sector which for too long have been passed over.

At last Letterkenny is starting to get the recognition and reputation it rightfully deserves as a leading holiday destination in the North West and Letterkenny tourism fully supports all initiatives and contributions right across the board from the local authorities, businesses to the everyday people who work together to make Letterkenny a tidy town and tourist friendly destination.
