PARENTS TO BLAME FOR VIOLENT JUNIOR CERT ROWS – TEACHERS

TEACHERS have today laid the blame for a night of violence in Letterkenny on the shoulders of parents.

There are claims today that there were a number of fights and scuffles in the town last night following the release of the Junior Cert results.

But a number of teachers have contacted Donegal Daily to complain – about the parents of the children.

“These are 15 and 16 year old kids,” a teacher at one Letterkenny school said today, “and this so-called tradition of kids going out on the town is just ridiculous.

“This has to stop. The culture surrounding the Junior Cert results has to change – they should not be out on the town where children will inevitably drink and drink far too much.

“What is wrong with having a family celebration over a meal like children do in Europe? I don’t think any parent who allows a kid to go out and drink can complain.”

Another teacher contacted us to say: “It is disgusting that some people were beaten up last night in Letterkenny. I was angry when I heard about it.

“But I also have to say this culture in this country of getting drunk at that age is simply wrong. Parents need to ask themselves – is it my fault?”
