Doctors are still hopeful of giving Donegal man Alan Doherty a new face after he suffered some medical complications.

The well-known Letterkenny man, 22, was born without a jaw or a chin and has undergone numerous operations to mould him a new face.

He underwent numerous operations which began in New York in 2007.

However Alan and his family were left disappointed when they operations were not a complete success.

He returned to Donegal in 2010 and went to see surgeon Patrick Treacy at the Ailesbury Clinic in Dublin.

Dr Treacy has revealed that he had planned to continue treatment on Alan but has been forced to postpone the procedures because of a medical issue.

However he vowed that when Alan is better, he will press ahead in the hope of giving the football mad Donegal man a new face.

Alan became ill but we cannot reveal what it is other than it is an underlying condition but it is not life-threatening,” he said.

He added that it is simply a delay and that “we will look at it again.”
