One on three cigarettes now being sold on the streets of Letterkenny is illegal.
New research has shown the town is the fifth highest in the country out of a poll of 22 surveyed which shows that duty has not been paid on the fags.
A spokesman for the Irish Tobacco Manufacturers Advisory Committee said the increasing figures were certainly worrying.
