FANS WARNED THAT PICKPOCKETS ARE FOLLOWING GAA FANS ACROSS DONEGAL

GAA fans across Donegal have been warned that criminal gangs are targeting empty homes and parked cars during the All-Ireland celebrations.

Jim McGuinness and his victorious team yesterday began a tour of the county with the Sam Maguire Cup.

The celebrations are expected to last days as the team tour all parts of Donegal.

The team will today visit Ballyshannon, Bundoran, Killybegs, Ardara, Glenswilly and Letterkenny.

Huge crowds turned out to see the team with up to 20,000 packing into The Diamond in Donegal Town for the official homecoming on Monday night. But Donegal’s Garda Crime Prevention officer Paul Wallace has warned fans that pickpockets are operating when crowds gather.

He said they have specific Garda intelligence that gangs have moved into the North-West for a number of days to prey on revelers.

Sgt Wallace warned “Pickpockets will move and mingle amongst the crowds and will target wallets, purses, handbags and phones.

“We are also asking people who are parking cars outside towns and walking into town centres not to leave valuables on show in cars,” he said.

Sgt Wallace also asked people to keep an eye on small children in large crowds.
