Portsalon Golf Club

 

Do you Know the Rules

 

A simple game played with clubs and balls but has a lot of rules, do you know the rules of golf. In association with the Golfing Union of Ireland Portsalon Golf Club will host a golf rules evening on Thursday 4th October 2012 in the clubhouse. The GUI representatives will give an overview on the main golf rules and this will be followed by a table quiz to test your new found golfing rules knowledge. This event is open to all golfers in the North West so why not come along and brush up on the rules of golf.

 

 

Portsalon Winter Links

One of the biggest golfing events during the winter Autumn/Winter months tees off on Saturday 29th September Portsalon Golf Club. The event is the clubs Winter Links competition. Over the years the event has attracted large numbers and this season the numbers keep rising. Membership to the event will be Portsalon members €10 with visitors €15., entry into each days competition thereafter Portsalon members €10, visitors €20.The normal prize format of four nett and four gross prizes will be on offer (depending on the entry). The dates for this year’s event are as follows; 29th September, 13th & 27th October, 10th & 24th November 2012, 19th January 2013, 9th & 23rd February and Captains day on March 9th . A slight change from previous format the time sheet will operate on each day and competitors must book their tee time for each day. There will be no block booking of tee times for the entire event. Events

On Saturday 29th September the Portsalon Winter Links, Sunday 30th a members competition, Wednesday 3rd October a gents open stableford competition. A time sheet is in operation for all competitions contact 0749159459 or go online to portsalongolfclub.com.

Captains Outing

Time is running out if you wish to attend the Captains week end away. The vice captain Joe Harkin has this year arrange a remarkable golfing feast with golf to take place on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October 2012. The event will be staged at our twinned partner Headford Golf Course Kells Co Meath .With hotel accommodation arranged at the Headford Arms Hotel one night bed & breakfast and one evening meal. The all in price for accommodation and golf is €110. As places are limited and the list is filling up for further details contact the clubhouse on 0749259459 or contact the vice captain Joe Harkin. Please forward your name and deposit of €50 to either Joe Harkin or to the office staff. Remember if no deposit is paid there will be no reservation made.

 

Gaeltacht League

Details for this season’s Gaeltacht League have just been announced and Portsalon’s first outing will be away to Gweedore Golf Club on Saturday 6th October. Some changes to this season’s competition will see each team reduced to 16 members. The Gaeltacht League Captain’s day will be held in Cloughaneeley Golf Club. The Portsalon team captain for 2013/14 is Donal Callaghan. The provisional dates for the Gaeltach League matches are as follows, away to Gweedore away 6th October, away to Nairn/Portnoo 20th October,home to Cruit Island on 3rd November, home to Dunfanaghy on 19th January, away to Rosapenna on 16th February. The Gaeltach League Captain’s Day will be staged at Cloughanelley golf club on 20th and 21st April 20th.

 

Results

The winner of the open com[etition staged on Wednesday 19th was Mivchael Leonard (13) 36 points, runner up Joe Harkin (22) 36 points, gross David Johnston (5) 27 points, 3rd Tony Kingston (14) 35 points. The CSS was 34 points non counting.On Saturday the winner of the open competition was Connor Connolly (5) 41 points, runner up Joe Harrison (16) 37 points, gross D P Logue (5) 32 points, 3rd Danny Mc Laughlin (28) 36 points. The CSS was 37 points. On Sunday the winner of the members competition was Eamon Mc Dermott (4) 38 points, runner up Sean Gibbons (12) 36 points, gross Connor Connolly (4) 27 points. The CSS was 34 points non counting.

 

New Members

A special opportunity for new members to join Portsalon Golf Club and enjoy three months free golf . All you have to do is make your application pay your fees for 2013 and get October, November and December 2012 free. Alternatively you can sign up and pay by instalments (Direct Debit only) of €50 for 10 months or €160 per month for October, November and December. Members Note

Members should note that all away scores should be recorded in the away scores book in the clubhouse

 

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
