This is the scene of a plane crash on the outskirts of Convoy which has left a young man fighting for his life.

The 22 year old amateur pilot, who has been named as Mark McLoughlin from Buncrana, crashed into fields at Carrickbrack just after 1.30pm yesterday.

Mr McLoughlin is in the intensive care unit at Letterkenny General Hospital with multiple fractures.

His micro-light aircraft came down during high winds close to Kilpatrick’s air-strip where a number of such light aircraft are based.

Gardai yesterday preserved the scene awaiting aviation investigators to arrive last night to commence a full investigation into the crash.

It had initially been feared that the injured man had been killed.

However, Mr McLoughlin was pulled from the wreckage and rushed by rescue helicopter to Letterkenny General Hospital.

Ambulances and fire brigades also assisted at the scene of the rescue operation which was co-ordinated by Malin Head Rescue centre.

WITH MANY THANKS TO CLIVE WASSON FOR THE SCENE PICTURE.
