TRAINEE DOCTOR FOUND LYING DRUNK ON ROAD

A trainee doctor who was found lying on a road drunk was warned he may need the services of his colleagues if he continues to drink so heavily.

Eoin Fahy, 21, was found by Gardai on the Port Road in Letterkenny on September 9th last.

A taxi driver instructed Gardai that he had spotted Fahy lying on the road at 4.46am and he was arrested.

Solicitor Kieron Dillon told Letterkenny District Court his client had over-indulged and didn’t know how to get home.

The court heard Fahy is in fourth year studying medicine and had come top of his class in chemistry.

He is also working part-time at Letterkenny General Hospital as part of his studies.

Judge Paul Kelly said a medical student should know better than to get into such a state.

“You work part-time at Letterkenny General Hospital so you are seeing first hand the effects of alcohol.

“The accident and emergency unit is often full of people who are suffering from the affects of alcohol. If you carry on like this you will require the services of your colleagues in the hospital,” he warned.

Fahy apologised to the court and said it was completely out of character for him.

Judge Kelly adjourned the case to allow Fahy to pay €100 to the Donegal Hospice.
