WOMAN RESCUED AFTER FRACTURING ANKLE ON DONEGAL MOUNTAIN

A woman had to be rescued from Lough Salt Mountain today after she suffered a suspected fractured ankle.

The woman, who is from Derry, suffered her injury just before 3pm near the second peak of the ridge.

The rescue 118 helicopter was dispatched from Sligo and dropped off two Donegal Mountain Rescue  responders as well as the winchman form the helicopter.

The woman was treated and then stretchered to flatter ground where the group were then collected and taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.

The rest of the walkers were then escorted down the mountain by members of the Donegal Mountain Rescue Team.

The women is expected to have made a full recovery.

A spokesman for the DMRT described the operation as a success.
