LETTERKENNY MARCHING BAND FINDS ITS FEET AGAIN – AFTER A DECADE

The date was September 3rd, 1969 and the place was Nellie McGovern’s Bar (now The Cavern) in Letterkenny.

The plan was to form a marching band to give the children of the town something to do.

But little did those who sat in Nellies that night think the band would be going 30 years later.

Now, after a break of more than a decade, the band is rising from the ashes once again.

Back on their feet, the band had a reunion in the Station House Hotel on the 25th August last with an impressive 40 members playing a selection of tunes from days gone by.

And so, on Friday night last, the group had their first meeting in the Loreto Convent to try and form a committee for the band, and that we did!

The new committee is as follows:- Joint Chairmen – Hugh McCauley and Patrick Doherty.

Secretary:- Elizabeth McCauley

Treasurer:- Deirdre Graham

PRO:- Tony Duffy

A working committee will be formed at a later date. There will be a registration night for the band on Wednesday 24th October at 8 pm in Conwal Parish Church Hall.

So everyone is welcome to come along, (it’s not just for members of past Letterkenny bands, anyone from other bands from years gone by, who would just like to play marching tunes are more than welcome).

So if you like the music from the Marching Band scene from a few years gone by, this is the place to be.

The band is strictly for over 18’s only.
