WELL-known musicians and singers from all over Donegal have lent their talents to a new charity album being launched at Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny on Saturday, November 3.

Seán Feeny brings together some of the county’s greatest talent together on the new album Northern Soul which is raising funds for GROW Mental Health Movement (Donegal branch) and the North West Simon Community.

In his early twenties Seán toured with bands such as Westlife and Irish Country star Derek Ryan and his former band D-Side, but Northern Soul is his very first solo album and was three years in the making.

Northern Soul brings you Motown and Soul classics but with a never before heard blend of Irish folk and traditional sounds.

The album features all-time classics from the Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Shirelles, Al Green and many more and will have you singing along to hits such as What’s Going On, Soul Man and Reach Out I’ll Be There.

Produced by well-known Donegal singer songwriter Mark Black, the album features renowned musicians talent from all around the county and was mastered by Orri McBrearty at Attica Sound in Termon, owned by Tommy McLaughlin (The Villagers).

Top fiddle players featured are Matt McGranaghan from Castlefinn, Falcarragh’s Theresa Kavanagh and hot shot trad trio Fidíl – Damien McGeehan (Ardara), Aidan O’Donnell (Dunkineely) and Ciarán Ó Maonaigh from Gaoth Dobhair. Featuring on the night of the launch is Denise Boyle (Glenties),

On double bass is Michael Gillespie (Sontas), bass is played by Letterkenny’s Brendan McGlynn while the ukulele is played by Declan McClafferty of In Their Thousands and mandolin is thanks to Orri McBrearty from Castlefinn (Heads of State).

Also featured are former All-Ireland winning uilleann piper Martin Crossin, Letterkenny flute player Trudy O’Donnell, Ramelton piano player Lisa Montgomery, renowned Letterkenny drummer Don Ponsonby (The Mindbenders).

There many guest vocalists featured including Tommy Callaghan (Heads of State), Fallon Crossan from Lifford, Strabane’s David Oliver, Karol Harvey (Sontas) and not least the wonderful Henry Girls from Malin.

Seán said: “I am very privileged to have so many wonderful singers and musicians, whom I am honoured to call friends, featuring on this album.

“Without their generosity and willingness to help this album would never have been possible and wouldn’t have turned out the way it did.”

Seán Feeny’s Northern Soul will be launched with a big concert at An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny, on Saturday, November 3. For more information and ticket bookings contact the An Grianán box office on Tel 07491 20777.
