Donegal County Museum has come up with a novel idea – pop-up museums!

This is a museum which exists only for a few hours on one particular day and is created by you.

The county museum is holding the pop-ups in two venues this month – Cara House and in the Central Library, Letterkenny.

The first takes place on Wednesday, 14th November in Cara House at Market Square between 1 and 4pm. The theme is “My Culture” and we invite both children and adults to bring along an object you consider to be “My Culture”.

The second takes place on Friday, 19th October 2012 at the Central Library in Letterkenny from 10.30am – 12pm

The theme of this one is “The Oldest Thing I Have” and he museum invites both children and adults to bring along an object you consider to be ‘The Oldest Thing I Have’ (not just your granny!).

People are asked to write a label describing what your object means to you, or write a story about your object and then put it on public display. You can see what other people have brought along and take the opportunity to meet and chat.

At the end of the session, you can take your item home.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. Strictly one object per person.

Other pop-up museums are planned for across Donegal in the future.
