YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY! SWILLY DRIVE’S TOP TIPS FOR PASSING TEST!

Donegal Daily readers have contacted us time and time again complaining about reasons for failing their driving test.

We have no magic wand to help people get their license.

But well-known driving instructor Brian Sweeney of Swilly Drive has compiled these top tips.

We’re pretty sure that if you follow them, you’ll have a great chance of throwing away those L plates once and for all! Good luck!

Top tips

a. “Fail to prepare, Prepare to Fail”. A driver who takes pre-test lessons with an RSA approved driving instructor (ADI) increases his/her chances of passing, drastically.

b. Practice! Practice! Practice! Make sure you practice what you learn on your driving lessons when you are driving with an accompanying fully licensed driver.

c. Make sure your car is fully roadworthy. Get it checked out by a mechanic at least a few weeks before your test.

d. Read the Rules of the Road book at least twice! Getting the rules of the road questions wrong is a very bad start.

e. Ask a friend or a family member to quiz you on the rules of the road questions and road signs.

f. Make sure you know the driver checks (i.e. oil, coolant, water, tyres, etc). Your driving instructor should cover this with you.

g. Make sure you know how to work the secondary controls (e.g. wipers, lights, hazard lights, electric windows etc.) in the car you are using for the driving test.

h. Don’t drive too slowly when on the test. A common fault of drivers failing the test is “Progress” i.e. being over cautious or too hesitant.

i. You vehicle should be clean, tidy and you should dress conservatively – First impressions count!

Arrive at the driving test centre at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Don’t be late!!
