A Donegal man has miraculously escaped being killed after he was hit by a high-speed train while jogging.

Kevin Rooney, from Letterkenny, was out running in The Hague in Holland when the accident happened.

The 40 year old was struck by the train while making the crossing of the train line at Rijswijk.

He was rushed to hospital and was placed in intensive care after suffering multiple injuries.

However it is believed the man has since been released from ICU and is making a satisfactory recovery.

It is understood he suffered multiple fractures including a broken arm and leg.

Local reports in the Dutch media say police are not investigating the incident as the man crossed the tracks into the path of the oncoming train.

Kevin has been living in Holland for a number of years where it is understood he works for the European Patents Office.
