Leo Blair was the husband of the late Hazel Blair, nee Corscadden, from Main Street, Ballyshannon.
The former prime minister was with his father when he passed away peacefully.
Mr Blair said he had been “privileged to have him as a Dad.”
He added: “He was a remarkable man. Raised in a poor part of Glasgow, he worked his way up from nothing, with great ambitions dashed by serious illness on the very brink of their fulfilment.”
Hazel died of throat cancer in 1975.
She had met Leo Blair in Glasgow.
He went on to become a law lecturer in Durham.
His wife never forgot her Irish roots; returning in the late 1960s with her husband Leo to Rossnowlagh – with the young son Tony and his siblings to spend summers at the Sandhouse Hotel.
