A TEENAGE Co Donegal boy has been treated for cuts after being mauled by two dogs.

The 13-year-old was left with gashes after the vicious attack.

The victim was fetching coal at the rear of his home in Newtowncunningham on Sunday when alsatians attacked him.

The boy suffered bite marks to several parts of his body including to his face.

It’s understood the dogs were later restrained and have since been put down.

Armed Gardai had to be called to the house to help round up the dogs before the boy could be treated by ambulance crew.

Shocked neighbours say the teenager was badly bitten in the vicious attack.

“He was getting coal for the fire when the dog attacked him,” said one local man.

“There was blood pouring from him, particularly from his face. God help him, he was in a state of shock.

“Thankfully it wasn’t worse, but you can only imagine what the result would have been if it had been a smaller child or a toddler. It doesn’t bear thinking about.”

The incident is certain to once again fuel a debate over stray dogs.

Gardai in Newtowncunningham are investigating the incident.

A Garda spokesman told Donegal Daily: “A 13-year-old boy was attacked by two dogs at approx 8.15pm on the 18th Nov.

“He was treated at scene by ambulance staff. The incident is now being investigated by Gardai in Newtowncunningham.”
