WORLD LEADERS TO BE INVITED TO DONEGAL DURING G8 SUMMIT

Some of the world’s most powerful leaders are to be invited to visit Donegal when the 2013 G8 Summit takes place in neighbouring Co Fermanagh.

The Minister for Tourism Jimmy Deenihan is to be lobbied to arrange a visit to various parts of Donegal.

Senator Jimmy Harte told Donegal Daily he has already contacted the Minister’s office in an effort to make the request.

He said there is no reason why the likes of US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel could not visit Donegal during “down time.”

The world leaders will fly into Ireland for a number of days next June for the summit which will be held at the Lough Erne Resort outside Enniskillen in Fermanagh.

“I think this represents a very real and rare opportunity to showcase Donegal to the rest of the world.

“I have contacted the Minister’s office with a view to inviting some of the delegation to Donegal during their stay.

“Fermanagh is only across the border and it could be arranged.

“The leaders will have some down time and the exposure for Donegal would be massive,” he said.
