DONEGAL MAN KILLED IN FREAK WORKPLACE ACCIDENT

A Co Donegal man has been killed in a tragic accident in Co Longford.

John O’Donnell, who is originally from Kilcar, is believed to have become trapped in machinery at the ESB plant at Lanesborough, Co Longford.

Mr O’Donnell, 59, who was from Shalway, Kilcar, had spent many years working in Longford with Bord na Mona.

The accident is believed to have happpened on Wednesday morning.

Mr O’Donnell was rushed to Mullingar General Hospital but efforts to save his life failed and he was pronounced dead.

A full investigation into the tragedy has been launched by the HSA.

Mr O’Donnell’s neighbours, friends and relatives in Kilcar are coming to terms with the shock news.

The late Mr. O’Donnell is predeceased by his wife Mary (nee Rock) and is survived by his son Owen, two sisters and mother.
