GOLF NEWS: LETTERKENNY LADIES GOLF CLUB NOTES

At Thursdays A.G.M. of the Ladies Club, the new Lady Captain, Sandra McMonagle took office. An exciting year ahead awaits Sandra, as the Centenary Year of our golf club is 2013 and so many events have been planned in which she will play a major part.

Alongside Sandra, is the new Lady Vice Captain Catherine Cooke-Harkin. Working tirelessly with the juniors and instrumental in encouraging new junior girls to the club, Catherine will also retain her role as the Ladies Club Junior Convenor. Best wishes to both ladies from everyone in the Ladies Club and may you enjoy your year ahead.

There wasn’t a wrinkle in sight when the birthday girl scooped the Christmas Hamper on her special day. Mary Murrays candles were fully aglow and she kept them lit on the back 9, to bring in the winning score of 35 points. Close behind, was her playing partner Celine Bradley who came runner up with 34 points. Marian O’Sullivan, never far away, came 3rd with 33 points. The front 9 was won by Eileen Harvey 18 points and the back 9 by Triona Daly 16 points. The rest of the field were there or thereabouts, allegedly. The Lady Captain -in waiting – was spotted hovering dangerously over the 10th drain but managed a superb save, alas the camera was not to hand.

Bagging her second turkey, Eileen Keating came in with 19 points, with a shot deducted B.O.T. to secure her bird. Bridget McClafferty, so close so often, has started her tentative steps on the turkey trot with the chocolates and wine, taking runner up with 18 points.

Pre-orders are being taken for Declan O’Carroll’s book, “Letterkenny Golf Club – The Centenary Years 1913-2012”, which is going to be launched on the 6th Dec 7.30pm at a mulled wine reception in the club. This promises to be a great night for taking a nice trip down memory lane. Of course, it will also make a superb Christmas gift for the golf lover in your life. €25 for a hard back copy and €15 for a paperback. The book is a wonderful celebration of the past 100 years of our golf club from its beginnings in Rockhill to where it now stands, amid 146 acres of mature parkland in Barnhill. If you wish to have a signed copy, please submit your payment with the pre-order form by 30th Nov. This can also be downloaded from www.letterkennygolfclub.com Please remember, books are not being posted and must be collected on the launch night.

The A.G.M. of the Parent Club will take place on Thurs 13th Dec at 7.30pm and your attendance is very important as we look forward to the Centenary Year in 2013.

All turkey and hamper presentations will take place during the Ladies Christmas Party on Sat 15th Dec. In order for the caterers to prepare, there is a list in the locker room if you would kindly put your name down. As usual, the ladies will enjoy the party in style with a wee tune or two from Gerry. Of course as a natural soprano, I have been brushing up on my top notes to delight your ears.

There is a Christmas Draw organised by Anthony Delap. Tickets are €5 and all proceeds are going towards the Club Development Fund. The draw will take place on 14th Dec.

The 25 Card Club continues on Wed 8pm and Bridge nights are on Thurs at 8pm. The book club meets monthly and new members and visitors are always welcome to any of the activities. The Quiz and Putt on a Friday is running and of course Browns on the Green fabulous Bistro menu is available Fri, Sat and Sun from5pm. There will be a Christmas Party open to all members in the club on the 21st December starting at 8.30pm. Greeted with a mulled wine reception, this is the ideal venue to bring your family and friends for a fantastic night of great food from the award winning chef. €18.95 per person to enjoy a fabulous gourmet buffet, followed by dancing the night away to some great live entertainment.

The new Ladies Club P.R.O. will be updating you from next week. See you all at the Christmas Party!
