ATHLETICS NEWS: ROSSES AC NOTES

Rosses AC

There will be a table quiz in Caislean Oir on Wednesday 5th December starting at 10pm. Your support would be appreciated. The annual underage presentation night was held in the Naomh Mhuire club house on Wednesday 21st last. Special guests on the night were Aidan and Derek Gillespie, our two senior T&F athletes who brought home 4 national medals to the Rosses this year for their performances in the V1 and V2 long and high jump. Louise Gillespie addressed the crowd with regard to the 7 club athletes who represented Donegal in Birmingham the sportshall athletics. These athletes were Joey Donald, Jade O’Donnell, Nicole Boyle, Sarah Doherty, Tara Harley, Bridget McDyre and Ailbhe O’Donnell. Brid Doherty followed with great detail on all the 31 athletes who performed at the ulster children’s games. Two awards were presented to the highest achievers – Grainne Glynn and Emma Maloney. The 11 athletes who competed in the All Ireland outdoors and were presented with their awards. Track and Field athletes of the year were: Caoimhe Boyle, Nicole Boyle and Ailbhe O’Donnell. Breege Ward and Mark Nicholas awarded 16 junior athletes with certificates for their efforts with Jack Doherty and Aidan Boyle getting a special recognition. Grainne Glynn and Cian McDevitt were the junior girl and boy of the year winners. Cross Country athletes of the year were Saskia Boyle, Ciara Kavanagh and Patrick Marry. Special recognition awards to Mia Doherty, Dylan Sweeney, Orla Cavanagh, Eoghan Diver and Chloe Murphy. Patricia McDevitts work was recognised as invaluable and she received a recognition award. Coaches were thanked for their tremendous work. A special mention to all our sponsors and contributors during the year. Some words from our guest speakers completed a very positive evening on a high note and a huge thanks to all involved. The Sports Hall athletics will continue on Monday nights in the Rosses Community School from 6:45 – 7:45pm. Fee is 10 euro for 5 nights or 15 euro per family. All welcome. All seniors please note that the club is planning to have a Senior awards and social night with a provisional date of December 14/15th planned in Dungloe – please see facebook for details.
