A number of members of the public in Co Donegal have been targeted by conmen trying to cash in on the success of RTÉ’s Late Late Toy Show.

Co Donegal viewers have been targeted in Late Late Toy Show ticket scam

The station has received reports of people receiving texts telling them they have just won tickets to the show, which is broadcast this Friday night.

The delighted ‘winners’ are then instructed them to call a premium rate number.

However RTÉ has confirmed the texts are a hoax.

“It has come to RTÉ’s attention that there are reports of a number of text messages in circulation claiming that the recipient has won tickets to The Late Late Toy Show and that in order to claim the tickets one needs to call a premium number or go online.

“RTÉ wishes to make it clear that there are no tickets for The Late Late Toy Show available by this method and these text messages are not from RTÉ and we would urge the public not to respond to these text messages.”

One woman in Letterkenny contacted Donegal Daily to warn other people who may have received similar texts not to call the number.

“I was about to call the number but then I heard it was a scam. I would have loved tickets to the Toy Show. Anyone would.

“I should have known straight away because when I thought back I had never even entered a competition for the tickets,” she said.
