GOLF NEWS: PORTSALON GOLF CLUB NOTES

Portsalon Golf Club

Christmas Hamper.

On Sunday 9th December the gents of Portsalon Golf Club will contest for the traditional Christmas hamper. Members as asked to record their names on the time sheet A draw will take place on the Sunday morning for tee times. Due to the large entry the shotgun start will be at 10.30 a.m..

 

 

Gaeltacht League.

On Saturday last the Portsalon Gaeltacht League team entertained Cloughaneely golf club. The Portsalon team came away with six and half matches to Cloughaneeley’s one and half matches. Having now played three matches Portsalon have 37 points. The remaining matches is a home match against Dunfanaghy and away matches against Rosapenna and Nairn/Portnoo golf clubs.

 

 

Events

On Saturday 8th December there is agents open competition. On Sunday 9th the traditional Christmas hamper takes place and on Wednesday 12th a gents open stableford competition. A time sheet is in operation for all competitions contact 0749159459 or go online to portsalongolfclub.com.

 

Christmas Party Night

Sean Mc Gettigan is putting the final touches together for these seasons Portsalon’s Christmas Party. The event will take place on Friday 21st December in the clubhouse. For further details and tickets for this prestigious event contact Sean Mc Gettigan on 074 9159459

 

Results

The winner of the Wednesday open competition played on 28th November was Tony Morrison (16) 39 points, runner up Dom Ponsomby (7) Letterkenny37 points, gross Dessie Ferry (10) Letterkenny 27 points, third Michael Leonard (12) 36 points. The CSS was 37 points. On Saturday the winner of the members competition was Cathal Toland (12) 36 points. On Sunday there was a members competition and this was reduced to a 18 hole competition as there was a service to unveil a plaque in memory of those who lost their lives on the HMS Saldanha. There was a good turnout despite the poor weather and the club Captain D P Logue unveiled the plaque which is located adjacent to the bridge on the 18th .

 

Christmas Golfing events.

Portsalon Golf Club have just announced their golfing schedule for the Christmas/New Year. Events get underway on Wednesday 26th with a ladies and gents open, Thursday 27th a gents open , Friday 28th four ball betterball any combination, Saturday 30th Ladies and Gents open, Sunday members competition, Monday 31st Gents open, Tuesday 1st January Ladies and Gents open, Wednesday 2nd Gents open. A time sheet is in operation for all competitions at Portsalon Golf Club, contact 0749159459 or go online to portsalongolfclub.com to make sure of your golfing times over the Christmas holiday period.

 

 

 

Golf Digest

The Portsalon members are eagerly awaiting the Golf Digest top 100 courses in Ireland listings which should be issued shortly.

 

 

Sympathy

The Captain D P Logue and members of Portsalon Golf Club would like to extend their deepest sympathy to Tony Kingston the sudden death of his brother Willie. May he rest in peace.

 

 

Portsalon Book

A reminder that Sean Mc Cormack is currently gathering information for the next edition of the Portsalon Book.It is planned to have the book with the printers in early January. So if you have any old photographs or stories of interest please forward to Sean.

Local Rule-Stakes and Ropes

All members and visitors are reminded that a local rule is in operation regarding the identified areas surrounding our greens. This is an action taken to protect the areas surrounding the greens.

Members and visitors should note that six inch placing on all fairways only was is in operation at Portsalon Golf Club.

Divot Bags

Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
