DONEGAL will be hit by significant snow falls, forecasters have warned.
Temperatures will rise over the weekend, but will soon plummet to freezing by Monday.
And Met Eireann and the Road Safety Authority have already issued warnings that snow will hit Donegal by Wednesday or Thursday.
“The early part of next week will be cold but mainly dry and bright, though with extensive night frosts occurring in most places,” said a Met Eireann spokesman.
“Freezing fog will be a problem at night also and, because of the lack of wind, fog and frost may not clear some areas during daylight hours.
“During the middle and later part of next week, northeast to north breezes will freshen. This means northern and counties will come under threat of snow showers which may lead to accumulations, even at lower levels.”
The Road Safety Authority of Ireland is asking motorists to heed the warnings and make efforts to ensure their vehicles are ready for snow and ice.
Donegal County Council has contingency plans to clear main routes across the county as black ice early next week is replaced by snow.
