SNOWMAN RACE AT GLEN ON SUNDAY

SNOWMAN RACE AT GLEN ON SUNDAY

IT’S called the Snowman race – mountain-bikers flying through the bogs above Glen in an annual race.

There wasn’t any snow on Sunday afternoon, but competitors fought though rain, hail and thunder in a bid to win a challenge in Ireland’s fastest growing sport.

And it brought loads of visitors to Co Donegal in the race organised by the Donegal Mountain-Biking Club.

Sunday’s race was also the final round of the Castle Cycles Donegal MTB Series, ‘the Snowman’.

Paul McCarter of Omagh took first place with blistering pace, with Shaun Stewart and Clive Caldwell following closely behind. See table titled ‘Snowman Senior Mens Results’

This meant that Paul McCarter took the overall series win, with Clive Caldwell and Rick McKee second and third respectively.

Scott Wallace took the win in this category despite being the youngest entrant and also being on a 160mm travel bike so is certainly one to watch for the future.

John Prunty took second with Paul Nash taking third. This result meant Paul Nash took the Bitta Craic Series win with Scott Wallace in second and Ciaran Coyle in third.

Said Findhan Strain from the Donegal MTB Club: “We would like to pay thanks to Castle Cycles for their support of the series, the competitors but thanks in particular to the marshalls and support staff for standing out in the extreme Donegal weather for hours on end.

The Senior Mens winners. L-R: third place, Clive Caldwell, 1st place is Paul McCarter and 2nd place is Shaun Stewart.
