Animal carcasses have been allowed to rot away on lands between Letterkenny and Ramelton, despite Department of Environment officials being notified about them.406677_10200350667593104_205139608_n

The dead animals, which include two sheep and two calves, have been dumped beside a public road at Breaghy Mountain.

The dead animals were first noticed by a walker on Tuesday last.

He contacted both Donegal County Council and the Department of Agriculture the day after the gruesome discovery.

An official from the Department of Environment called to visit the scene but admitted it would take between three and four days to dispose of the animals.

The animals remained at the scene last night and were being eaten by rats, badgers and foxes.

The scene also contains the hide of a calf.385254_10200350671793209_1021203263_n

The area surrounding the lands where the find was made belongs to Coilte who have a drainage network which feeds into drains of adjoining lands.
